I’m a registered nurse and have been working in the area of critical care since I was 17. I’ve been working in trauma for over 3 years as a critical care nurse for the emergency medical services and my work is based in the emergency department. I’ve been doing my education and training in critical care nursing.
So I guess, being a nurse, I tend to have a fairly good idea of where critical care nurses can work. I am working at a hospital, but I have an emergency medicine certificate, which means that I can practice in critical care. I also have a nurse’s aide certification as well. Being a nurse with critical care practice is a very broad field and there are a lot of options. I’m working in a small town but I plan to move to a bigger city in the future.
I was initially hesitant to become a nurse, because I don’t know that much about the field. My first question was, “What does the job of a nurse entail?” I was told that I would have to learn the skills of a respiratory therapist, a pediatrics nurse, a pediatrician, and a critical care nurse. I could practice in an emergency room, in a lab, or a NICU.
