Amanda Nall is a blogger, blogger, and all around awesome, but she is a bit of an insufferable know-it-all when it comes to the world of decorating. She will tell you that you shouldn’t put a chair in front of a bed, that you should put your curtains in a certain place, and that you should never have more than two dressers in the house.
I’m going to let her rant.
I’m not sure if I fully get this, but I’m pretty sure they’re saying, “Put your curtains in the middle of your room, not the middle of your bed.” And, “If your closet is too big, you should have a dresser down the middle of the room with a drawer under it.
These are just a few of Amanda’s favorite decorating tips. She lives on an island of her own, and she’s determined to make this island her own by decorating it in her own style. She finds that the perfect balance between traditional and modern is best achieved by using both sides of a wall, and the right color scheme on both sides of a wall.
Amandas tips are often too broad or general, but I think she does a great job of getting at the real problems of decorating with space. Just as an example, I have a few of my favorite decorating tips that I’m going to share with you.
1. Use what you have. If you have a couch in the living room, you might as well use it. People who live in apartments, condos, or homes do the same. If your walls need a little extra space, you can use these extra rooms to create the next best part of the room.
And this is a great way to get all these little nooks and crannies that will put the finishing touches on your room.2. The right wall space is the most important. If you have a room that is over-plated with bookshelves, you have the wrong wall space. If you have an over-sized dining room table with a huge amount of cupboards, you have the wrong wall space.3. Make sure the wall space is not the focal point.
This is actually pretty simple, because every single wall space is designed to be used in a particular way. If you have a room with a lot of bookshelves, then you should probably have a separate bookshelf space in the room. If you have a room with a huge dining table, then you should probably have a separate dining table space in the room.
This is also a great reminder that the right place for everything is in the right spot. If you have a lot of cabinets in a room, then you might want to put them in some other area of the room too.
And if you have a lot of bookshelves, it’s a good idea to go outside and get a view of the sea. Sometimes you just want to see your bookshelves and not have to open them every time you come in the room.
